Built in the mid 1700s at the crossroads of two old coaching routes, the Blue Bell Inn is purportedly named after a local privateer's boat the Blue Bell. Legend has it that he was later caught and hanged for his piracy and is thought to be buried a few hundred yards away in the cemetery next to Halkyn Castle. How to find us.

Open from 5pm weekdays (closed on Tuesday) and 12 noon Weekends and Bank Holidays. We are an independent, family run, award winning freehouse! We had such fun at last years 50th birthday bash celebrating the number of years since the Beatles formed (with Ringo) we're doing it again! To mark the 50th anniversary of the release of the Beatles' first album, Please Please Me, the 'Fab Three' will be rejoining us on Friday May 17th at 8:30pm.

John & Chris are Reflections Reflections are a delightful easy listening acoustic duo playing memorable music from the 50s onwards. They sing and play here every 3rd Thursday each month from 9ish. Like all of the music here at the Blue Bell Inn, it's a lovely sound and we would love to see you at the next one.

John & Chris are often accompanied by friends who add to the breadth of music taking it from light classical to Irish comic song, all easy on the ear.

Rantin' Dogs here Mon 13th May

Rantin' Dogs (that'll be the two on the right & the two on the left!)

The Rantin' Dogs - a fantastic sounding folk quartet (look I know there are 5 in the picture, they're the two either side of centre!), Steve, Dugie, Mark & Michael would like to let you know that they rehearse and play here every 2nd Monday each month from 9ish (after the Welsh class), playing traditional acoustic folk with a Celtic leaning.

Note that the Rantin' Dogs will be here a week early in December on Monday 3rd.

Check out where they got their unusual name from here cos there's no ranting with this group, like all the music here at the Blue Bell Inn, it's a lovely sound.

Mad Ed's Hot Five every Sunday afternoon! - at 3pm(ish)

With last Sunday's wonderful 6th birthday bash Mad Ed's hot Five are gently easing into old age in their usual mellifluous fashion.

There's Trad Jazz here every Sunday at the Blue Bell Inn, Halkyn at 3:30pm(ish), with the mellow sounds of Mad Ed's Hot Five who bring a great mix of humour with superb musicianship. Don't miss the Hot Five next week as they entertain both us and themselves with such verve and vigour that you'll get withdrawal symptoms if you do!

Mad Ed's hot Five are in full force most weeks with double bassist Mad Ed Lloyd-Hughes leading a stunning line-up of Roy Django Gregory (Modjango) on guitar & banjo, Stan Bananas Williams (YouTube) on trumpet & flugelhorn, Tom the Doc Rippeth on trombone & wagnerian horns and Dave Dixon playing clarinet and saxphonica (that's two of them!). You'll see from the pictures that they are ably supported by a range of fantastic subs who give us a lovely and varying mix of sounds.

All are welcome to enjoy the entertainment & our range of cask ales & real ciders and we hope you have fun joining in with Mad Ed's happy band of jazzers. Don't forget to look out for our new Jazz Links pages as they're growing all the time!
