We visited after a friend in from Northop recommended the Blue to us. The Blue has a lovely friendly atmosphere and we've have been back several times and have had delicous food every time. We are planning to come for Sunday lunch this weekend too! We couldn't recommend it enough, we've found a new local!
Built in the mid 1700s, the Blue Bell Inn is purportedly named after a local privateer's boat the Blue Bell. Legend has it that he was later caught and hanged for his piracy and is thought to be buried a few hundred yards away in the cemetery next to Halkyn Castle. At around 1000 feet we sit on top of Halkyn Mountain with spectacular 60 mile views over the Dee & Mersey rivers, Cumbria and the Pennines. Real fires in winter add to the warm welcome. We always have our own Welsh brewed Blue Bell Bitter and other regularly changing well kept real ales. We are in the Good Beer Guide 2005 and have been awarded the Cask Marque for our beer quality. We've had over 100 different cask ales to date. Our food is a mixture of locally sourced homemade and traditional meals ranging from lighter bites to those that challenge the hungry. Within a few miles you will find golf courses, horse riding and trekking facilities, still water trout or coarse fisheries, as well as sea fishing in the River Dee estuary. For walkers, there is Halkyn Common and a network of footpaths, while for motorists there are quiet country lanes through breathtaking scenery.
